What do I like about this class?

The first thing I worry about when I start a new class is how the teacher is going to be. In particular I like this class because I think we have a lot of chances to pass. The way Mr. Turner teach make us understand better because he uses easy methods to remember and he make clear examples. A good way to teach is by funny things and that’s something I like about this class. The teacher make some fun dynamics like when we need to get in groups and compete. This make is see it like a game but at the same time we’re learning. Other thing I like is that we can make up work to change our grades and we can come to other classes to make up hours is we have missed a lot of classes.

how will these skills help me in english 0950 and other writing situations.

Because English is my second language and because i have to learn it good to talk almost  all the people in these country, i have to develop a lot of skills that can make my life easier  when i communicate. When i came here 4 years ago, i started in ESL I that is the lowest level of English. In this class they teach you just basic stuff and i got it quickly and the teacher thought i was ready  to skip a level so she send me to ESL III. From there i went to regular English skipping ESL VI too. That was to hard for me, because i mist a lot of basic stuff when i skipped the levels. That didn’t stopped me because i found out that if the things are harder you learn faster because of your necessity to understand. This is what i think it will help me with English 0950. If it’s too hard for me, I’m going to get more involved because i know i have to pass the class anyways in order to start my career classes.

Sometimes when the things are easyy i get distracted by anything because in my mind I’m thinking, i’ll do it later, its to easy anyways! Other thing is that now i have some friends that doesn’t speak spanish at all and i have to use my English to communicate to them. That push me want top learn more words to communicate with them better so they can understand me. In this class i have developed witting skills because i have to write a lot for the assignments and when i make a mistake the teacher correct me and make me see what’s wrong inn my writing. Most of the mistakes i make are in my spelling because i get confused with present and past verbs, but day by day i’m learning how to fix these mistakes.

The writing skills i developed

My writing skills have been changed. All the teachers try to tell you some tricks you can use to improve your skills, but the ones you develop by your self are the ones that can help you more. Like me, when i first start writing in English it was easier for me to write it in Spanish first, then translate it to English. Now I don’t have to do that because now i know how to think in English that’s a skill I’m going to have to use it for the rest of my life. Other skill i have developed is that my vocabulary is bigger now. When I’m outside i like to get involved in conversations with people that doesn’t speak Spanish at all because if i want to say something i need to think about it until i find the way to say it. When i need to say something i don’t know, i explain what i want to say and they tell me the right word to say it.

What i’m noticing about my assignments as i revise them

My writing have been changed a lot not only in the time i have in this class, but in all my life. When i see a resume or a letter from other years i can see a lot of mistakes i don’t make anymore and that are clear to me now. Sometimes when i see a papper i ask my self how could i make that misrtake if it was so easy??, but the thing is that i can see it now, but at that time, it was something i didn’t know. This kind of revisions make me understand how muuch i have been learned from that time to the present. As i revise my assignments now i can see how my spelling has improve too.

Choosing the assignments

To choose the assignments I’m going to use in the portfolio, I have to look at which ones i understand better. The ones i choose are the review, the instructions and the essay.  I choose this by looking at the ones i did bestin. In the review i feel i did good because we had a lot of information and it was easy to understand the topic, and by the exercises we have been doing about the brainstorm it’s easier to organize the ideas in order. I liked the instructions too because we could choose the topic. This is good because everybody can fell comfortable talking about what they like or what they know how to do best. The essay was something different because it was something you can talk about with details because is something that happened to you. For me the difficult part in this assignment was to choose what I was going to  write about, but when i choose it it was easy to write it.

What I’m learning as i revise my portafolio…

As the time passes I learn a lot of things like  recognize the  errors I make more often. By looking at this I try to learn a was t remember how to do it right. This make me improve my writing without knowing it until i  revise my old assignments.  Now you can see how the  grade in my assignments have been changed. At first the writing was poor and  I had a lot of notes all over the page. The idea was poor too because i wasn’t putting that many details to support it. But now I learned how to describe what I’m trying to say, the ideas are clearly now.
